I read a great article this past weekend that reflects new research done on sleep. It analyzed approximately 175,000 individuals nationally. The thesis states that getting the right amount of GOOD sleep each night can play a role in heart and overall health, which could add years to your life. Furthermore, research suggests that 8% of deaths could be contributed to poor sleep patterns. The following are some highlights from the study:
- Sleep impacts hormones, metabolism, mental health, memory, and physical health.
- More than 33% of Americans don’t get enough sleep.
- Those that reported meeting the proper sleep requirements on a nightly basis, life expectancy was 4.7 years longer for a man and 2.4 years longer for a woman.
- Take your sleep seriously as it could change your daily and long term health outcome.
